12.5" solid brass Durga — fan/peacock-shape halo crown, rectangular plinth base with carved border, lion at left. Hand-cast in Moradabad, the brass-craft capital of India, by artisans whose families have been working in metal for generations.

About this deity

Goddess Durga rides her lion into the world to vanquish what cannot be defeated by force alone. Mahishasura Mardini — slayer of the buffalo demon — she carries the weapons of every god in her many arms. Durga is the mother who protects, and the warrior who acts when action is required.

Hand-painted enamel work in the meenakari tradition — each colour band laid into engraved channels, fired, and polished. The craft is centuries old; the technique cannot be machined. The piece is solid brass throughout — there is no plating, no hollow shell. Slight variations in finish, dimension, and weight are inherent to the handmade process and are part of the character of each piece.
